Cryin' in Your Beer Songs

Tom Schreck writes the Duffy Dombrowski Mysteries. His "Duffy to the Rescue" ebook cracked Amazon's Top 50

Alright, he or she dumped you. You got nothing.

No prospects and nothing to look forward to.

Just memories that remind how much you lost and how little you got to look forward to.

But you got three things to help.

Your regular hangout (hopefully you didn't bring him or her there and saved it as an oasis), alcohol and jukebox money.

Stare straight ahead, don't talk to anyone, get a seat at the non-busy end of the bar, and commence with self-pity, self-loathing and the hopeless romanticism about how perfect the one who treated like shit was. Now, go to the jukebox and play these selections.

1. Indescribably Blue, Elvis Presley

2. Drive All Night, Bruce Springsteen

3. Permanently Lonely, Willie Nelson

4. Wurlitzer Prize, Waylon Jennings

5. Whiter Shade of Pale, Procol Harum (Yeah, I have no idea what the song's about either but it makes me incredibly blue.)

6. I Will Always Love You, Whitney Houston

7. Running Scared, Roy Orbison

8. Send in the Clowns, Frank Sinatra

9. Romeo and Juliet, Dire Straits

10. I'll Never Fall in Love Again, Tom Jones

I'm outta quarters. You got any? Whatcha gonna play?

A long time since you've been blue, that's good. Hasn't been a quarter selection in years.
Doesn't matter -- I liked the piece.

Me? I'm gonna play "Far Away" with Carole King crooning to me like she did back in high school and college. I STILL play her album once in a while and those weepy times come back. "Doesn't anybody live in one place anymore? It would be so fine to see your face at my door!" Boo hoo!

R-E-S-P-E-C-T by the Pointer Sisters. Oh yeah!

These Boots Are Made For Walkin.

Only because I like that thrumming ding-ding-ding-ding-ding sound in the background. Otherwise, it's a song that didn't really need to be recorded.

I would suggest these major league weepers:

IT TURNS ME INSIDE OUT--Lee Greenwood

IT WAS ALWAYS SO EASY TO FIND AN UNHAPPY WOMAN (Till I Started Looking For Mine)--Moe Bandy

I CAN'T HELP IT (If I'm Still In Love With You)--Hank Williams (but Linda Ronstadt had the best version)

HOLDING THINGS TOGETHER--Merle Haggard

HE STOPPED LOVING HER TODAY--George Jones

YOU'RE NOT DRINKING ENOUGH--Don Henley

ANOTHER PLACE, ANOTHER TIME--Jerry Lee Lewis

SATIN SHEETS--Jeannie Pruett

definitely the George Jones and Jerry Lee selections...

You've got to play "Crying," by either Roy Orbison or Don McLean.

Or "Blue," by LeAnn Rimes, back when she was 13 and didn't know what Blue was. :)

*stares with interest at song list*

*backs away*

Dont'cha have any Irish fiddle music? Maybe some Bach? How about Tallis?

The saddest songs I listen to are obscure medieval pieces. I don't think your jukebox has "Bryd on Brere."

:D

Tom, How could you forget that place at the end of Lonely Street, i.e., Heartbreak Hotel?
