What I Did On My Summer Vacation

By: Maegan Beaumont

I am a binge reader.

I can go for months without reading a single book. Months... mostly because I'm busy writing or canning or trying to grow something or making homemade yogurt, but then I get this urge to read and I drop everything I'm doing and READ!

It usually happens in the winter but this summer I read like crazy (and canned and made yogurt and grew stuff and wrote. I wrote LOTS!!) Anyway, here's my summer reading list:

In between all the reading, I...

went to Mexico.
grew a nectarine tree from a seed.
met a donkey. we named him Lance.
bought a house.
rode the skyride at Snowbowl in Flagstaff.
canned blueberry butter. it's delicious.
made homemade yogurt. it is also delicious.
rescued a dog. she's as old as
Methuselah and as blind as Ray Charles.
We named her Sadie and we love her.

had my very first book signing!
wrote!!!

Maegan Beaumont is the author of CARVED IN DARKNESS, the first book in the Sabrina Vaughn thriller series (Available through Midnight Ink, spring 2013). A native Phoenician, Maegan’s stories are meant to make you wonder what the guy standing in front of you in the Starbucks line has locked in his basement, and feel a strong desire to sleep with the light on. When she isn’t busy fulfilling her duties as Domestic Goddess for her high school sweetheart turned husband, Joe, and their four children, she is locked in her office with her computer, her coffee pot and her Rhodesian Ridgeback, and one true love, Jade.

"Prepare to be overwhelmed by the tension and moodiness that permeates this edgy thriller. Beaumont’s ability to keep the twists coming even when the answer seems obvious is quite potent."

Great reading list - and congratulations on the new house. I think your book sounds perfect for a fall thriller read - just what I need about now.

Man, that blueberry butter looks delish, Maegan! And what did you think of Dark Places? Did you read Gone Girl? Does Gillian Flynn's second book live up to the first?

I feel like the world's laziest slacker! Can I have some of whatever energy supplement you're drinking? Great post, Maegan!

Thank, Lynn! :) When we bought the place we thought that maybe an acre and a quarter was too much... now I want cows!! If you read Carved in Darkness, I hope you enjoy!

Beth, it is delicious... I'm eating it on everything!!
Dark Places was the first Flynn novel I've read. I liked it and had regular bouts of prose envy while reading it. I think Sharp Objects in next in cue. :)
